Baker Clubb / Strategic Introductions
Your attention is valuable. We intend to treat it that way.
Baker Clubb introduces business leaders to companies, people, and opportunities we believe may genuinely deserve their attention. The company seeking the introduction may compensate Baker Clubb. You do not. And their willingness to pay does not determine whether we believe you should take the meeting.
We are an intermediary, not an inbox.
Companies come to Baker Clubb because there is a particular person they believe they should know. Sometimes that person is you. Before approaching you, our job is to independently answer: is there a credible reason these people should speak? We research both parties and examine the reason for the meeting. If we cannot articulate why the conversation could plausibly be useful to both parties, we should not ask for your time.
We do not sell access to you.
Baker Clubb is not a marketplace where someone can pay to occupy your calendar. A company can ask us to pursue an introduction. We can accept or decline. If we contact you, we have looked at this closely and believe there may be a worthwhile reason for you to hear them out. You remain entirely free to disagree. “No” is a perfectly acceptable answer.
They pay for the work, not for your time.
Creating a thoughtful introduction can require substantial effort: research, analysis, understanding both organizations, determining the right person, finding the right route, developing the case, and communicating it clearly. Companies compensate Baker Clubb for doing that work and assuming the risk involved in producing the introduction. They are not purchasing your participation.
Sometimes we may ask for five minutes first.
We may simply ask for a few minutes ourselves before asking you to meet the company we represent. Give us five minutes to explain why we believe the conversation may be worth having. If you disagree, we respect the answer.
A useful introduction strengthens Baker Clubb. A bad one weakens us.
Our long-term value depends on earning trust with the people we contact. Every irrelevant introduction makes it less likely you will listen to us next time. Every unexpectedly valuable introduction makes Baker Clubb more useful to you. The reaction we hope to earn: “If Baker Clubb is contacting me, I should probably read this.”
